Featuring a jam-packed day of tours, IT seminars and Coaching Young People for Success workshops, NASC’s newest year 11-13 student cohort were introduced to what student life is like at Northern Adelaide Senior College’s Orientation Day last Wednesday.

NASC’s students come from a variety of backgrounds, each seeking the flexibility, acceptance, support and tailored learning NASC is famed for in the northern suburbs.

“I have a friend who went here last year and I used to work with him for a short time and he told me all about it [NASC],” says Jayden O’D., newest student hoping to enter the Police Academy next year.

“I said that I needed to get my SACE and he sold this place to me. He actually took me here and he showed me around a bit one day.”

“Orientation has been good. I’m really impressed that there’s heaps of teachers and case managers to help people out.”

Other students also enrolled in hopes to seek different career and post-secondary pathways since leaving school early to work.

“I left school to work. Work sucked. Came back to school,” says Kyle J.

“I had a variety of jobs. I left for fast food, did pressure cleaning, factory cleaning, factory work and then farm work.

“At the moment, I want to finish year 12 and see where I go.”

“I want to get good grades, study real hard, and do my work,” agrees Shredan F.K., who is looking forward to her classes starting Monday.

“I dropped out at the start of year 11 but I want to go to university to study social work. I wanted to go back to school because I kind of missed school, and so I said ok, I’ll go back to school.”

Richard C., an alumnus of NASC, attended Orientation with his sister Catherine who’s hoping to achieve an ATAR to enter Biotechnology at university in the future.

“Well before this was called NASC my parents went to this school,” says Richard whose parents attended NASC when it was formally known as Para West Adult Campus (PWAC).

“I was here for three years. I did science at the beginning, but I got kind of bored with that so I studied video games and stuff like that.

“I think the teachers are the best thing about this school and the social workers.”

If you, or someone you know, would like to know more about year 11-13 at NASC, Principal Tours are available to the public every first Friday of the month. For more information, please call (08) 7285 1600 to book your place.
