NASC wears pink to spread awareness of breast cancer
Northern Adelaide Senior College is turning pink in an effort to raise much needed funds for breast cancer research and care.
Members of the Student Organising Committee and Leadership made the decision to host Wear It Pink again this year as many of the NASC community have known or been affected by cancer.
“Basically it comes up every year – do you want to do it? Do you feel like this is good cause? Do you feel like students in the school will think this is a good cause? – and they always say unanimously yes because it’s affected so many people in our school,” says Student Services Officer, Laura Sutherland.
This year’s Wear It Pink will be held over two days with a month-long social activity facilitated by NASC student Jameena I.
“On Tuesday we’ve got Wear It Pink for a gold coin donation,” says Melanie R., a NASC student helping with the event.
“We’ll have pink lemonade and pink cookies. On the 25th, which is Thursday, we’ve got a Mean Girls movie and we’ll have pink popcorn and pink jelly.”
“We’re also doing some knitting and crocheting in pink throughout the month of June on Mondays and Wednesdays so students can come in and learn a new craft and have fun and make friends at the same time,” says Laura.
Melanie hopes that students and staff enjoy the events and food created by Food and Hospitality students.
“I hope students learn more about breast cancer. Hopefully it brings awareness to them that it effects both men and women and eventually we will find a cure,” says Melanie.
The event is open to NASC and CLC students and staff on the 23rd and 25th June 2020 in the HUB Open Space.
