NASC hosts first careers forum for students
Last Thursday, Northern Adelaide Senior College staff and students held a careers forum to discuss how to improve the delivery of career education at NASC.
“At NASC we value student input especially when it is based around student needs,” says Mary Hodson, Assistant Principal in SACE, VET and Careers.
“Selecting a career pathway can be stressful and navigating transition can be complex for anyone at any stage in their career journey.
“Understanding how and when our students need to engage with developing career competencies is important. We see it as vital to develop the whole student as a local and global citizen for the future.”
Many of the responses from students included visits from professionals to discuss what it’s like in their career; learning behavioural and negotiation tactics for the workplace; mini career workshops and the best pathways to actually enter their career beyond accreditation.
‘It was a great opportunity to hear the voices of our diverse student cohort as we collaboratively develop a vision about career education at Northern Senior College,” says Ben Dening, SWB Leader and Career and Transitions.
