A growing number of students and staff members couldn’t imagine their semester without the bi-annual music performance provided by the Certificate II and III Music students at Northern Adelaide Senior College.

Last Thursday, VET music students performed hits from Elton John, Foo Fighters, Toto, Pearl Jam and many more from the MEZZ Performance Space which was also livestreamed on Facebook by AGFA students.

“Stand up and Shine came about through Cert II and Cert III music classes needing to do a performance for their courses to meet the course requirements,” says Sam White, Music teacher at NASC.

“We basically got them to design the show, put the show together, plan it and do everything. Right from having to organise how much it was going to cost, how we’re going to fund it, the set list, the order of songs and stagecraft.

“They pretty much did everything and it all came together to fruition.”

Sam, and fellow music teacher Bronwyn Taylor, were happy with how the students coordinated the live event and their performance on the day.

“Overall I thought the students did really well and I think their standard of performance has increased,” says Sam.

“They’re improving their ability to express themselves on stage and create that entertainment factor.”

The performers thought they all improved significantly over the year and last Thursday’s performance solidified that belief.

“On the whole, it started off a bit iffy, especially us Cert IIIs, but it just got there in the end and it went pretty well. Especially the last couple of songs,” says Trae F.

“I think it went better than last semester. I think we could’ve done a tiny bit better, but it was a solid performance all round,” agrees Joshua J.

“It’s all a good experience, It’s a thrill to do. Yes, you get the nerves of the concert but you still get a very big, fun experience from the concert and the course itself,” says Jordan J.

All three are part of Regional VET who chose NASC for its progressive music program.

“I chose NASC to make myself a better musician and learn from a really, really good teacher. I learnt heaps this year,” says Trae.

“NASC is amazing. I wish I could come more than once a week,” laughs Jordan.

Northern Adelaide Senior College hosts a spectrum of musical subjects to choose from. Enrol for 2021 by talking to one of our enrolment counsellors at NASC on (08) 7285 1600.
