Makeup is a passion at NASC
Northern Adelaide Senior College Certificate III Make-up, Hair and Fashion Styling pathway student, Kate C., says that to enter the world of makeup, you first need to have a passion for it.
“I’m currently studying the Cert 3 in Makeup, Hair and Fashion Styling pathway through Colour Cosmetica as a VET course here at NASC,” says Kate.
“Hair and Beauty is one of those industries where it’s about the passion, you have to have a passion for it. So if you’re passionate about Hair and Beauty I would definitely say this is the course for you.
“We’re learning how to apply makeup and how to recommend services. We’ve also done some makeup application and soon we’ll learn how to do airbrush makeup.
“Basically anything and everything that I need to know to become a makeup artist in the industry.”
Colour Cosmetica Academy recently opened their Salisbury campus in February to deliver collaborative and progressive beauty and hair programs for students in the northern suburbs.
Kate hopes that the skills she learns from her Certificate III course will provide an opportunity to enter the theatre and entertainment industry.
“I’m a massive musical theatre fan and I would love to work in the theatre industry, but I don’t think I’d be capable as a performer, so I wanted to work behind-the-scenes.
“I like playing around with makeup, so makeup was the best option and hopefully that will lead to becoming a child chaperone for professional theatre in the future.
“It’s my foot-in-the-door career so that’s why I’m learning makeup first.”
Kate says that the Certificate III Make-up, Hair and Fashion Styling pathway offers plenty of hands-on activities and open-book assessments that are informative and fun.
“The trainers are really nice and the course has been really good,” says Kate.
“Hair and beauty is great and it is fun and the industry is always growing, especially as South Australia is becoming a bit of a film hotspot.
“Hair and makeup will be huge in South Australia in the next couple of years and I can’t wait!”
