Blast Off with Lisa for National Simultaneous Storytime
Northern Adelaide Senior College Lisa the Librarian reads Give me Some Space! written by Australian author and illustrator Philip Bunting to the children of crèche on Wednesday.
National Simultaneous Storytime has been running successfully as part of Library and Information Week for the past 21 years, and this year’s event includes NASA astronaut Shannon Walker reading live from the International Space Station.
Lisa says that this year’s theme of space was positively received by the toddlers of NASC’s crèche.
“The story is about a little girl who dreams of becoming an astronaut and finding other lifeforms in space. Instead she discovers that Earth is the best place to be,” says Lisa.
“The children in the crèche were very excited about the pictures. They like pointing out the various planets, the astronaut’s clothes, and they enjoyed telling us bits and pieces that they identified as space.
“The words were perhaps for the older child, however the younger children in the crèche did enjoy listening to the story this year.”
National Simultaneous Storytime aims to get #1MillionKidsReading in Australia and New Zealand and is a highlight of Library and Information Week celebrations.
