Northern Adelaide Senior College Food and Hospitality students enjoyed creating a delicious Spaghetti Neapolitana in NASC’s new kitchen installation last Monday.

Principal Anne Sim says that it’s great to have the new kitchen central to NASC and easily accessible from the MEZZ and HUB buildings.

“I think it looks great. It’s exciting,” says Anne.

“We’ve had a lot of interest from students. Food and Hospitality is one of the classes that we’ve had a waiting list for.

“We’re looking at a whole range of possibilities including increasing the number of classes that feature food as part of their integral learning.”

Cathy Adams, Food and Hospitality teacher, echoes Anne’s sentiment about the new kitchen.

“I think it’s fantastic, I really love it,” says Cathy.

“It’s fantastic to have a kitchen that’s clean and new. We now have the space and we’re able to create and diversify our dishes a bit more.

“Once this social distancing has ended we could begin catering events and get our students involved by giving real life experiences where they can learn lots of skills.”

Anne says that students have expressed interest in possibly creating a mini-canteen for NASC students and staff during recess and lunch.

“There’s a whole range of ways we can use the kitchen,” says Anne.

“Workplace Practices class is in the process of getting a barista course organized and we’re looking to install a fly screen as a sliding window.

“The coffee machine has been set up there in such a way to facilitate a morning coffee café.”

Blake W., a keen foodie studying Food and Hospitality, loves the new kitchen and is excited by the changes that NASC are making.

“I like cooking in general and learning new things,” says Blake.

“The kitchen’s really good. It’s like where I used to work. It’s very similar in a lot of ways.”

“It feels like I never left really,” Blake jokes.
