A comfy good time at NASC
Northern Adelaide Senior College staff and students wear their evening best to raise much needed funds for children in foster care.
“National Pyjama Day is all about wearing your favourite pair of PJ’s,” says Kayla M., a NASC student organising pyjama day.
Kayla says that students and staff can participate in a raffle and a toy-naming competition held on the last day of school (“…and also Laura’s birthday!” says Kayla).
“We weren’t able to do it on the same day as the national day because we didn’t have enough time to organise it so we made our own day and we chose the last day of term,” says Laura Sutherland, Student Voice Case Manager.
“I think it’s a nice day to do it as people start to move onto the holidays early.”
All funds raised goes towards The Pyjama Foundation’s Love of Learning Program which is offered to children in foster care.
The Learning Program is a one-on-one mentoring scheme where volunteers spend time with a foster child each week to improve the child’s learning through fun activities.
“We hadn’t had a raffle all year, and previous raffles have been successful so we decided to combine the two and get some nice comfy stuff to go with pyjamas,” says Laura.
“It’s panda themed – panda pillow, panda cup, panda pens and hot chocolate. The other one is a llama with a llama cup, hot chocolate and notebook,” smiles Kayla.
Kayla and the SOC hope that students and staff enjoy the last day of Term 3 in the comfiest of outfits.
“Come in and be bright. Have fun and just look goofy. You might as well come with bed hair,” says Kayla.
“Jump out and head straight to work and school without having to change. Just come straight in and that’s how the holidays should roll on from there,” laughs Laura.
